Hardware Design
Custom electronics, PCB design, power systems, sensors, RF, batteries, and ruggedized embedded devices.
General Resistance designs embedded systems, wireless sensors, and cloud-connected devices for products that have to work reliably in the real world.
We work across the complete connected-device stack: the electronics, the firmware, the radios, the measurement chain, the cloud that receives the data, and the test fixtures that get it out the factory door. One team owns the whole problem.
Custom electronics, PCB design, power systems, sensors, RF, batteries, and ruggedized embedded devices.
Firmware, RTOS development, drivers, low-power optimization, BLE, cellular, Wi-Fi, and device communications.
BLE, LPWAN, LTE-M, NB-IoT, Wi-Fi, satellite connectivity, antennas, RF architecture, and range optimization.
Measurement systems, signal processing, calibration, edge processing, anomaly detection, and intelligent sensing.
Device-to-cloud architecture, APIs, telemetry pipelines, provisioning, dashboards, alerts, and fleet management.
EVT/DVT support, automated testing, fixtures, manufacturing validation, provisioning, and scaling from prototypes into production.
Most of what we build has to be inexpensive, power-efficient, wireless, and remotely deployed, then left alone. A device in a grain bin, a reefer trailer, or a field station can't be rebooted by hand, so we design for the constraints that show up after installation: battery budgets measured in years, intermittent connectivity, temperature swings, dust, water, and people who aren't engineers.
That shapes every decision, from radio selection and sleep-mode design to enclosure sealing and how a fleet reports that something has gone wrong.
Bring us an early concept, an existing design that needs fixing, or a prototype that needs to become a manufacturable product. The same engineers who choose the radio and write the firmware are the ones standing at the test fixture, so decisions made in week one still make sense on the production line.
Architecture, feasibility, component selection, technical risk reduction, proof-of-concept.
Electronics, firmware, mechanical integration, wireless systems, prototypes, and cloud integration.
Field testing, environmental testing, RF testing, automated validation, and iteration.
DFM, manufacturing support, production test, provisioning, supply-chain support, and design optimization.
General Resistance, LLC is an embedded, wireless, and IoT engineering firm led by Brett Byer, an embedded and hardware engineer with more than a decade of experience developing wireless products, instrumentation, and IoT systems.
His work has ranged from consumer electronics and laboratory instrumentation to humanitarian early-warning systems deployed in some of the world's most challenging environments.
Alongside client engagements, General Resistance, LLC designs, ships, and supports its own connected-hardware products end to end — including the text-message programs that come with them.
Tool and equipment tracking for work trucks. When a crew pulls out without something, LoadoutGuard texts the crew lead within minutes — while they're still close enough to turn around.
General Resistance, LLC operates LoadoutGuard's SMS alerts program, "LoadoutGuard Alerts."
Feed-bin monitoring for poultry farms: live bin weight, days-to-empty forecasts, and refill alerts, all delivered as simply as a text message.
The battery life that isn't adding up, the radio that drops out in the field, the prototype that can't be built at volume. Send a short description of what you're building and where it needs to work, and we'll tell you honestly how we'd approach it.
Typical engagements: feasibility studies, full product development, design rescue, production readiness.
We read every message and will reply within a couple of business days.
